EQUINE-ASSISTED THERAPY

Horses Don't Care
How You Feel.
They Care That You
Know How You Feel

Some boys won't open up in an office. Some men need a different way in. The farm changes what's possible.

Equine-assisted therapy builds the emotional awareness and self-regulation that talk therapy alone can’t always reach. For boys, men, and families.

Farm Based Sessions

It’s Not Riding.
It’s Something More Useful.

In Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAP), you don’t ride the horses. You work with them on the ground. You might groom them, lead them through an obstacle course, navigate challenges together, or simply learn how to be in their presence.

Horses respond to your energy, your focus, and your intentions in real time. They don’t care what you say. They care how you show up. That instant feedback helps build emotional awareness, self-regulation, confidence, and practical skills that carry over into everyday life.

Why It Works

For some boys and men, talking isn’t always the easiest place to start. Working with horses creates a different way to connect, regulate, and build skills through real experiences in the moment.

The Feedback
Is Instant

Horses respond in the moment to your energy, emotions, and choices. That real-time feedback helps you understand how you show up and what needs to shift. Fast.

The Body Has to
Show Up

You can’t fake it with a horse. You have to be present, regulate your body, and stay engaged. These are the same skills that create change in real life.

You Don’t Have to Start With Words

Horses help break through where words get stuck. You can build trust, connection, and understanding without starting with the hard conversations.

Who Is It For

Equine-assisted therapy can support boys, men, and families in different ways. Sessions are individualized around the person in front of us, using the environment and work with horses to support the goals that matter most.

Boys

One-on-one equine assisted therapy helps boys build focus, regulate emotions, strengthen confidence, and develop real-life skills.

Men

Equine-assisted therapy is a powerful way for men to manage stress, build emotional awareness, and create meaningful change.

Families

We offer family sessions that bring parents and children together in experiences that build connection and understanding.

All sessions are individual, just like office therapy. And tailored to your goals.

How EAP Works for Specific Challenges

Equine-Assisted Therapy for ADHD

Equine therapy is one of the most effective supports for boys with ADHD in Calgary and it requires no sitting still.

Boys with ADHD are often told to pay attention, slow down, and think before they act. Telling them doesn't work. The farm does something different. It requires it. A 1,000-pound horse responds to your energy, your movements, and your level of presence in real time. You cannot lead a horse through an obstacle course while your mind is somewhere else. The environment demands focus in a way that feels earned, not imposed. When a boy loses focus, the horse lets him know immediately. When he regulates and re-engages, the horse responds to that too. He doesn't need to be told he did it. He felt it.

Equine-Assisted Therapy for Autism

Equine-assisted therapy offers boys with autism a connection that doesn't require decoding social rules. Just presence.

Many boys with ASD spend years learning to decode a social world that wasn't designed with them in mind. The invisible rulebook, the shifting expectations, the expressions that don't quite make sense. Horses don't have any of that. They respond to what's actually happening. Your presence, your calm, your focus. Nothing more. For a boy who works twice as hard as everyone else just to get through a social interaction, that kind of honest, uncomplicated connection can be genuinely new. The sensory and movement-based nature of the work, grooming, leading, groundwork, also engages the nervous system differently than sitting and talking. That is where the real progress happens.

 Equine-Assisted Therapy for Emotional Regulation

For boys who mask what's happening inside, a horse makes that impossible. That's exactly where the work begins.

Many boys who struggle with emotional regulation have learned to mask what's happening inside. To perform calm, or shut down entirely. Horses see through all of it. They respond to what your nervous system is actually doing, not what you're presenting. When a boy walks in dysregulated, the horse picks it up immediately and responds accordingly. When he shifts and settles, the horse responds to that too. He doesn't need to be told he regulated. He experienced it. That real-time loop between internal state and external response is what builds genuine emotional awareness. Not because someone explained it. Because he experienced it.

 Equine-Assisted Therapy for Behaviour Challenges

Horses respond to what's underneath the behaviour, not the behaviour itself. That's where real change happens.

Behaviours are communication. Something is happening underneath that the behaviour is expressing. What makes EAP effective here is that the horse responds to the behaviour without judging it. It doesn't get frustrated. It doesn't escalate. It simply reacts. When a boy comes in with big, unregulated energy, the horse responds to that. When the boy shifts, slows down, becomes more present, the horse responds to that too. He doesn't need to be told what changed. He felt it. That direct experience of cause and effect is what makes it stick in a way that a conversation about behaviour rarely can.

Every session is tailored to the individual - boys, men, and families.

Why Horses?

Horses live in the present. They read body language, energy, and intention. Not words. This creates a neutral, non-judgmental space where real learning can happen.

Horses respond honestly, without judgment or agenda.

They help build self-awareness, self-regulation & confidence.

Horses live in the present. No grudges.

The work happens whether you talk or not.

What you learn here transfers to real life.

Where It Happens
