What is BEING HEARD IN THE HERD?

Being Heard in the Herd is a four-week therapeutic boys group where the farm becomes part of the therapy.

Through guided activities with horses, animals, and each other, boys have opportunities to notice what is happening within themselves, understand their emotions and reactions, communicate what they need, and build stronger connections with others.

Horses are particularly good partners for this work because they respond to what is happening in the moment. Boys can see how their body language, energy, communication, boundaries, and behaviour affect the interaction, giving them a chance to slow down, adjust, problem-solve, and try something different.

With only four boys in each group, there is also something individual therapy cannot provide in quite the same way: the opportunity to practise these skills alongside other boys. They learn to listen, cooperate, navigate differences, support one another, and discover that being part of the herd doesn't mean having to be the same.
